Free-to-play voxel survival horror

Craft Doors: Horror Escape Run is a free action game from ABI Global LTD. This voxel-style survival horror will have you scrambling across rooms, running away from different monsters inspired by pop and internet culture. Behind locked doors are monsters who will stop at nothing to have you, and you’re tasked with reaching the next door.

With a simplified game control and a steady difficulty progression, Craft Doors: Horror Escape Run is a passable Minecraft Pocket Edition (MCPE) offshoot that remains enjoyable despite the obvious visual similarities. Be warned, though, since it capitalizes well on the jumpscares.

Run from one door to another

In essence, Craft Doors: Horror Escape Run feels like a combination of chasing horror games like Nextbots in Backrooms: Obunga set in the universe and the visual style of MCPE. The premise is simple: different types of monsters chase you per level and you are tasked with reaching the next door. Monsters vary from voxel-art Endermen to massive pixelated faces. It does, however, have increasing difficulty as you progress.

Visually speaking, it’s set in large rooms that look like Minecraft through and through. In terms of the enemies, however, it breaks character and imports poor-resolution faces that are generally unsettling and adds to their jumpscare potential. Add an appropriate soundtrack, and you have a genuinely scary experience. Controls are easy, with options to switch from first to third-person view.

However, there might be an issue with the control sensitivity, making it feel janky. This makes the game additionally challenging especially since the game requires precise control as you make turns and jump over obstacles. Also, like most free games, this one is riddled with ads. Aside from the fullscreen ads unskippable for a few seconds in between levels, there are also ads when you die in an attempt.

Filled with ads and jumpscares

Craft Doors: Horror Escape Run is a promising game experience that brings the increasingly popular chasing horror subgenre to mobile. Complete with the full Minecraft visual appeal, this is a game that is intuitive, simplified, and works well with the jumpscares that it offers. The fast-paced experience and steady difficulty progression is only hindered by its incessant ads that appear even as you play.

PROS

  • Good use of voxel art style
  • Offers a wide variety of enemies
  • Steady difficulty progression

CONS

  • Filled with ads
  • Wonky control sensitivity
